Fanime Con 2003 had a whole slew of panels, discussion groups, classroom gatherings, industry sessions, and Guest Q&As to attend to throughout the weekend. Whether you were into cosplay or just wanted to chit chat with your favorite Guests of Honor, the panels and discussions were a great way to educate yourself and see all the work that happens in the anime fan and industry communities.

J-Rock Cosplay: J-Rockers rejoice, for you are represented!  Panelists were on hand to talk about the secrets and styles of this part of fashionable hobby.  Topics included applications of wigs, clothing resources, special shoes, chest binding, Visual Kei styles, and much more.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Representatives from GAINAX discussed the big and upcoming plans for the live-action movie.  Topics included choice of characters, scripting, CG mecha, keeping it fan-friendly, scouting opportunities, the unintentional religious aspects from the animated series, and the potential market for the final release.

 
Bandai Entertainment: Jerry Chu of Bandai Entertainment was available to discuss the new and upcoming releases, answer lots of questions about the big Gundam universe, issue updates on extra DVDs, and give out free T-shirts at the end of the panel for all the big Bandai fans.  Action Satisfaction!

Animation Style and Technology: Discussion in the technical realm of animation included topics like software vs. classic animation methods, toy references, studio setups, still using light tables, advanced techniques still relying on traditional tried-end-true processes to animate, and paving a new way towards answering the call for the anime collectibles market in the future.

Anime Club Summit: Heads from BAAS, Sacramento, and Pittsburgh gathered together with their respective groups to talk about the plusses and minuses of hosting anime clubs.  Topics included shopping trips, potlucks, memberships, tape or DVD libraries, and mailing lists to keep track of the various weekend excursions and video screenings.
