Japanese 101: Learning Japanese is fairly hard for most speakers as the language based on a totally different structure compared to European languages. This panel focused on the major aspects of the language to make it a bit easier to digest. Topic features included proper grammar use, levels of politeness, onomatopoeia, unique cultural differences, feminine phrases versus male phrases, honorifics, slang use, phonetic styles, and basically being careful about everything you say to a regular Japanese person.

Writing About Anime: On the forefront of compelling stories within the anime community, Gilles Poitras, and Carl Horn pointed out issues on the anime essentials. Topics included issues about sales and marketing in anime and manga, how role-playing games influences anime, ethics in Lain, strong females in Sailor Moon, how magazines are different from books and how the industry has taken a stance on either of the two forms of publications, using anime conventions for connections, being prepared for technical jargon, anime distribution, paper publication and copyright concerns, and legal issues.

So Desu Ne Cosplay: Cosplay is not always about having fun, it's a lot of hard work and dedication as this group shows. Cosplay topics featured Masquerade setup, skit planning, emphasis on being organized and being prepared, practice time constraints, paying attention to rules and regulations, dance choreography, placing more emphasis on audience entertainment, and overall making sure you stick to what you planned to do and avoid the temptation to improve on a particular skit idea when already committed to a specific plan and routine.

The Bands of J-Rock and Indie J-Rock: It's a great time to delve into the unique aspects of J-Rock while it's still fresh and new. Panelists highlighted their favorite bands like Malice Mizer, Shazna, Dir en Gray, and had books to show like Gothic Night. Topics also included Visual Kei, fascination with hairstyles, hanging out in Shinjuku, focusing on fashions, J-Rock cosplay communities, and influences from 80's American music like David Bowie and Kiss.
