Panels and Discussions and Workshops, oh my!  Anime North 2002 offered an exciting variety of panels featuring many esteemed Guests of Honor, noted fans, and representatives from the domestic anime industry all heading healthy discussions on various exciting anime and manga-related topics ranging from new shows, fan activities, historical perspectives, and other forms of fan entertainment lasting throughout the weekend.  Packed full of attendees, every single panel or activity offered something to learn from.  If only school or work meetings were this stimulating.

Bishounen Anime: Panelists get straight to the heart of bishounen fandom, they want more plushies! Hot topics featured pairings in fan fictions, more plushie alerts, stoic facial structures, facts about female cosplayers going as bishounen males, creepy characters versus erotic characters, and angst that oozes from shows like Weib Kreus, Gundam Wing, and Bakuretsu Hunters.
Jem Project: Before Sailor Moon, there was the truly outrageous Jem and the Holograms that dominated the airwaves with magical female rock bands that captured the hearts and minds of girls everywhere. And thus began a resurgence of interest in old school anime as fan groups talked about the cool characters, magical girl stereotypes, classic episodes, online fansites, the Cyndi Lauper look, the cool songs, and of course, the attraction towards Japanese animation style.

Cosplay ER: Cosplay panelists Tristen Citrine and Lisa talked about hanging out with the Japanese cosplayers and wht kinds of quick-fix utility kits they have to fix fabrics, wigs, facial blemishes, and so forth. Topics also covered how costumes are quickly repaired on live-action shows and concerts like Sakura Taisen, Sera Myu, and Utena. One amusing highlight featured Tristen's Japan trip story about a little girl who accidentally caught a Sera Myu Sailor Venus doing her business in the ladies room.
Samurai Pizza Cats: Set in an alternate universe, the Samurai Pizza Cats is a show drawn in anime style with animal characters living in an invariably exciting Little Tokyo lifestyle set in feudal-like Japan environment with a modern-age conveniences. The heroes run a fast-food pizza shop as a front to hide their secret identities with the purpose to thwart the evil villains set afoot by a greedy council member who wants to take over the city. Fans spoke about this favorite show, from the greatest episodes, characters, and the influence that anime has on great storytelling.

J-Rock in the Mainstream: From Larc en Ciel to Malice Mizer, J-Rock fans gathered together to speak out about the rising popularity of this visual concert and music video arena. Topics covered music videos, concert tickets, web resources and magazines such as J-Point, Fool's Mate, R&R NewsMaker, and PatiPati. Panelists also talked about the hottest collectibles featuring Dir en Gray, TM Revolution, Hyde, Kageru, Baiser, Gackt, and Cascade.
What Does Adult Really Mean?: Proper education is the key as the fine line between anime shows for kids and anime shows for adults is becoming increasingly thinner, but panelists have managed to narrow down some of the aspects of what really determines a more mature theme for adult audiences. Subjects included questionable images, fantasy worlds, censorship, abuse of fan fictions, gay vs. hetero characters, and references to classic art like Michelangelo that borders between erotic fixtures and simple art and sculpture appreciation.
