Ani-Magic 2001
Panels and Workshops 5

Meet Tomoko Taniguchi: This wonderful artist gave a little history on how she started out in the romantic shoujo manga world, as well as detailing her personal liking for science fiction, horror, and action movies, favorite artists like Leiji Matsumoto, Yoshito Yoshikazu, and Osamu Tezuka, and being able to travel around the world when she can to research classic and romantic imagery for her manga.
PhoeniX SeeD Cosplay: (left to right) Irvinator, SeeD friend ClutZGirl holding Tonberry plushie, Hi-chan, and Angel Wings Rinoa held a second panel for weekend cosplay excitement.  Notable cosplays from this group featured: AX99: Escaflowne characters, AX2000/AM2000: Final Fantasy VIII characters, AX2001/AM2001/Fanime2001: Chobits, Rival Schools, and Final Fantasy IX characters and many more ranging from Vampire Princess Miyu to Evangelion.
Building a Cosplay Group: (left to right) Dragon Night Slade from Acme Boyz Cosplay had 10 members after AX99, Lynleigh from Star Crossed Lovers always had two (her and Ashley), Gina, Chrissy and Erin from Sailor JAMboree always had numerous rotating members from around the country.  Each member gave their input to the audience on how small to large cosplay groups deal with travel concerns, good communication, rehearsing for cosplay performances, member recruitments at conventions, hall cosplay schedules, and having fun with other cosplay groups as the anime convention circuit draws a larger scope of peaked interest in the costumed arts.
Cosplay Reform: Fielded by experienced cosplayers and Fanime, Ani-Magic, and Anime Expo Masquerade staffers from all over California and abroad, Masquerade complaints and suggestions for improvements took center stage as concerns included the number of entries allowed, skit times, stage and security costs, technical equipment complexities vs. limited convention budgets, constant focus on high-quality performances and winning and sacrificing fun to entertain the audiences, backstage concerns, using the Fashion Shows for simple walk-ons, and good communication with staffers.
Additional panels and workshops held throughout the weekend included: Art of Yaya Han, Meet Fred Ladd, How to Build Garage Kits and Models, Anime Fireside Chat, Breaking Into Voice Acting, Meet Tiffany Grant, Meet Amanda Wynn Lee, Model Painting, Yuri / Yaoi, AD Vision, and Ani-Magic's Product Improvement session.
